Sins of The Smart

After quite some time staying quiet, i felt that this is something i need to write & share as my personal view of the current situation.

in Islam, an act of stealing is punishable by cutting one's hand. i'm not trying to go deep into the rules before cutting the theft's hand nor will i  would like to discuss the origin of the punishment. Here in Malaysia, there are a lot of professional people with high education background which love their religion, angry when other make fun of it, and some are fighting to create a nation that implement "Hudud" as commanded by our god.

However the funny thing is that these folks are using a Pirated Version of Softwares & OSes, Listening to Illegal downloaded Musics, Photocopying Books that Published with copyrights & best of all Using torrents to get most of this materials. [i'm excluding games on purpose here]

if the argument that islam does not acknowledge copy right as a property or part of trade, there are several strong Islamic scholar that support the idea of "copy right" is someone's property[1][2].

Does this means that we need to stop downloading illegal software?
i would say this is a calling to the person that feel that they are like a frog in boiling water. we are sitting in the water since we are ignorance.
